Cornerstone Christian Academy serves elementary school students from bridge-kindergarten through 5th grade.

Our teachers share in the learning adventures of the class. Respect for cultural, family, and social growth are balanced with student needs. Our curriculum balances rigor, reason, reflection, respect, and responsibility. Our most recent curriculum adoption has been in math and science.

Science

STEMscopes is a K-12 comprehensive online science curriculum program that provides hands on inquiry activities, assessments, problem-based learning, intervention tools, and accelerated materials. Each of the 5 E's describes a phase of learning, and each phase begins with the letter "E". The 5 E's are as follows. (some models include 7 E's; they are listed below as well).

  • Engage: an activity to focus attention and stimulate interest
    • Elicit: access prior knowledge
  • Explore: an activity which allows students to investigate and collect information
  • Explain: an activity which allows students to explain their understanding of concepts and processes. New concepts or skills are introduced as conceptual clarity is sought.
  • Elaborate: an activity which expands and solidifies their thinking, often through application to a real-world problem
    • Extend: to other curricular areas
  • Evaluate: an activity in which encourages students to assess their understanding that provides teachers the opportunity for the teacher to assess student understanding

Math

Math in Focus from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt presents the Singapore approach to math in a way that is easy to use and understand. Available for Kindergarten through 5th grade, Math in Focus: The Singapore Approach is the United States edition of Singapore’s most widely used program.

Singapore Math Curriculum is a problem-based approach that thoughtfully builds on a concrete-to-pictorial-to-abstract progression for greater depth of instruction and mastery of math concepts. Visualization strategies including model drawing allow students to master more complex problems. The program also uses powerful number bond models to enhance the instruction for mental math, number sense, and computation.

  • Carefully paced instruction that focuses on teaching fewer math topics per year to a level of mastery
  • Consistent use of visual models and manipulatives that carefully bridge the concrete and the abstract—encouraging algebraic thinking, facilitating communication of math ideas, and solidifying learning
  • Instruction centered around problem solving using multiple models to help students visualize and understand the math concepts
  • Ample practice for continuous ongoing assessment

My World Social Studies

2nd-5th Grades

Learning comes alive through storytelling, literacy instruction, and flexible resources. Stories from our world engage students and help develop thoughtful, literate citizens. Lessons apply inquiry processes, practice reading and writing, and involve collaboration and communication skills. Blended learning experiences include an interactive Student Work text and digital courseware.

Pearson Realize is new and has a most advanced learning management system. It provides an online destination for standards-aligned content, flexible class management tools, and embedded assessments and data.
